Danish carsharing provider GreenMobility is entering a partnership with Chinese technology provider WeRide. The goal is to bring its robotaxis to Denmark and establish a driver-free ride-hailing service.

The Chinese robotaxi specialist WeRide is set to further expand its presence in Europe. Following the announcement of a robotaxi project with Uber in Madrid, Spain as well as a new initiative in Slovakia, Denmark will become WeRide’s sixth European market. However, it is important to note that commercial operations have yet to commence in any of these six countries, as preparations are still ongoing.

WeRide’s new partnership with GreenMobility, a carsharing provider with a fully electric fleet, aims to introduce a driverless, autonomous, on-demand ride service in Denmark. In other words, it will offer a typical robotaxi service, similar to those already deployed by WeRide in China and the United Arab Emirates.

First unveiled in October 2024, the WeRide GXR robotaxi van will be used for this initiative. The vehicle is based on the SuperVAN platform (now: Farizon SV) from Geely’s commercial vehicle brand Farizon. The fully electric vehicle uses over 20 sensors, including LiDAR, high-resolution cameras, and a high-precision RTK inertial navigation system. As recently as March, WeRide ordered 2,000 upgraded units of the GXR robotaxi from Farizon.

The project is being developed in collaboration with the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) and the Danish Transport Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen). All testing and implementation will comply with applicable Danish and European regulations.

Kasper Gjedsted, CEO of the GreenMobility Group, states: “GreenMobility has built operational excellence across millions of shared car trips in Denmark. This partnership lets us take that experience directly into our next growth phase in autonomous mobility. We are proud to team up with a world-class partner like WeRide, whose technology is among the most advanced in the industry, as we together plan to bring autonomous shared vehicles to Denmark.”

Tony Han, Founder and CEO of WeRide, adds: “This partnership marks WeRide’s first entry into the Nordic region and another important milestone in our European expansion. By combining WeRide’s autonomous driving technology with GreenMobility’s local operating capabilities, we are establishing a scalable model for deploying autonomous mobility in new international markets. We look forward to delivering safe, reliable and sustainable autonomous mobility services while helping shape the future of urban transportation in Denmark.”
